2017 Biathlon Experience
2017 Biathlon Experience
May 20th The Dog Shepherdess team and friends participated in one of the most exciting and exhilarating dog event we have ever done. The USK9 Biathlon is a one of a kind race in Anniston, Alabama for you and your dog. We decided to camp out the night before the race to make sure we would get to the race on time the following day. We arrived late and there were people near the camp site directing us and were very helpful. The next morning we walked to the race event and got our registration packets and waited for our time slot. Each racer was given a time divided in one minute increments to give each racer time to start the obstacles. The first 5 minutes of the the race was intense! We had to run through sand dunes, swim through water pits and crawl through tunnels. At every obstacle, they had a judge observing if you completed each task. If you opted not to do complete the obstacle, your overall time would be docked.
Most of the race was running through creeks and dirt trails. We tried to run as much as we could through the entire race but the creek was very difficult to find good footing. My favorite obstacle was jumping on and over the roof of cars. I felt like a hardcore athlete scaling each car with my dog Truman. toward the end of the race there was one final obstacle before the finish line. I had to balance across a log while holding my 50lb dog! At this point my arms are like jelly and I couldn't muster up the strength to bend down and pick up Truman. Thankfully, I had taught him to jump in my arms and that gave me the extra boost to get through the obstacle. We finished in 1:07 time! It was such a fun and exhilarating race and I plan on making it a yearly tradition and expanding our Dog Shepherdess team and friends! We would love to share this experience with you next year.
